Pointing the Way

Case Study: Re-pointing a Traditional Stone Wall

Over 20 years ago, a famous Chef presided over an auction of the best wines from his cellar to finance the restoration of the “Clocher”, the bell tower of a village within the Limoux appellation. Three hundred people participated the first year. With the event growing and the venue changing annually, nearly 35,000 people visited the event hosted by the village of Autugnac in 2012!

...And what do you do if you need your property sprucing up for the big occasion - call Aude Builders!

Martin and Jane Hunt did just that - they have a superb property opposite the Mairie in the heart of the village, but the exterior needed a bit of TLC.

The old lime mortar (Chaux) and more recent cement mortar repairs needed raking and breaking out, ready to be cleaned to accept the new pointing. Trial panels of lime pointing mortar were made up using a range of local sands, to allow the clients to select the colour they felt would best compliment the beautiful stone and the character of the village. Once agreed, we set to work to give the property the facelift it deserved.

The client says "We found Paul and his team very professional. They were on time, on schedule and on budget. The work area was left clean and tidy at the end of each day and well cleaned at the end of the work. I have already recommended these excellent workers to friends. Great job guys!"
